This poster created for the Lincoln Center Film Festival is considered more so a work of graphic design rather than fine art. Printed as an off-set lithograph, this piece pushes the viewer to consider their personal appreciation of art and design. Does the fact it is a poster make it any less valuable than Warhol’s other pieces? It includes the same design elements as the rest of his works, such as bright colors and imperfect screen-printed style; does the addition of text and its medium make lesser? This clash of high and low art is a pivotal theme of Pop Art, as well as the capitalist mindset of creating art for the masses. This poster may slightly depart from the traditional paint-to-canvas format associated with museum-quality work, but is as much a work of art as the rest of Warhol’s portfolio.
